HISTORY OF THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND PRODUCTION OF THE PROVINCE ALTAGRACIA

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND PRODUCTION LA ALTAGRACIA, INC. is an institution with legal personality and autonomous non-profit nature intended to promote the development and stability, economic activities of the country and especially within its jurisdiction. Its permanent address is located in the street Manuel Monteagudo No. 1, of this city of Higüey, Province La Altagracia, Dominican Republic.

The date of constitution of the CCPALT, was created on June 27, 1987, with the purpose of availing itself in all its parts, to the benefit of the law No. 50/87, promulgated by the Executive on date (4) of the June of the same year, and published in the Judicial Gazette with No. 9172. On June 15 of the same year, but it has been in the service of businessmen since 1963, the President of the institution at that time Mr. VICTORIANO PEPEN GARRIDO, in the period 1987-1989 and Mr. HERIBERTO GUERRERO GUERRERO, who was Executive Director in the period 1987-2006, both Members and Advisor, respectively, of the Board of Directors.

For general knowledge and in accordance with the availability to the current executive order No. 520 of July 28, 1920, hereby states the following:

That on June 27, 1987, the articles of association of the non-profit-making company known as CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND PRODUCTION OF THE PROVINCE ALTAGRACIA INC were drafted and signed, which has its domicile and social seat in this city of Higüey, Province la Altagracia with its office in the street Manuel Monteagudo No. 1,

 

That on March 30, 1989, they were deposited in the Secretary of the Juvenile Court of this Judicial District, and in the Registry of First Instance Court of the Judicial District of La Altagracia, two copies of the documents constituting the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND PRODUCTION OF THE PROVINCE LA ALTAGRACIA INC,

The aim of the Chamber is to gather all useful information for commercial exchange, with the help of other national or foreign Chambers of Commerce and all institutions that can supply them, to make them available to interested parties.

This law continues until Chapter XI with a total of 116 articles, all related to the Customs Regime, cabotage and all port and maritime activities related to each other on national and international trade.

Article 73 establishes that the Executive Power is authorized to appoint a Chamber of Commerce, composed of five importing merchants, in each of the ports of Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata, and in others where it deems convenient.

These laws were sanctioned by the Conservative Council as determined by the Constitution of June 26, 1847 and given at the National Palace on July 7, 1847, endorsed by the Minister of Finance, Commerce and Foreign Affairs.

In view of the foregoing, it is possible to observe the close interaction between the developed cities in seaports and the Chambers of Commerce, together with government entities, and that today the precedent is continued when the Chamber of Commerce forms part of the Board of Directors Of the Dominican Port Authority, as well as of many other organisms.

The CCPALT has maintained its prestige and credit as an advocate for the interests of the business community, maintaining the predominance at the national level even after the promulgation of Law 50-87 on Chambers of Commerce and Production, which establishes a Chamber in Each of the provinces of the country.

As an institution, it is recognized its representativeness and value as a legitimate interlocutor to the different situations and socio-economic and political events of the nation, and has inspired and sponsored the emergence of new entities that are recognized for their valuable contribution to society .
